DMX_IO Logo The DMX_IO channelset is a custom Quest3D™ channelset allowing direct interfacing of any devices compatible with the DMX 512 protocol such as Light Controllers/Consoles, Lighting Fixtures, Smoke Machines, Scanners, Color changers etc... to and from Quest3D™.

So... What is DMX?

DMX stands for Digital Multiplex and 512 means that a maximum of 512 DMX channels can be addressed on 1 single IN or OUT cable (This single line is generally called Universe).

It is a unidirectional serial communication protocol based on the RS-485 protocol which was developed to simplify and give tremendous flexibility to stage, lighting, scenic designers etc...
Due to its strength, robustness and ease of use, this standard has become the defacto in the event industry (and others) and is used in most venues worldwide from Live Shows to Theatres via Clubs, TV etc...

Athens97Why a DMX channel for Quest3D?
Well this has been on the drawing board for sometime now and will allow anyone to either use Quest3D as a DMX Controller or to simulate and prepare their stage lighting, special FX etc... offline within Quest3D using any external DMX Controller/Console.
Combined with the Midi_IO, the Spectrumyser™ and/or even the Network channels one can imagine complex IN/OUT "bridges" between protocols for all sorts of interesting and powerful possibilities.
